NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith says his weekend arrest on a domestic abuse charge was the result of "an unfortunate misunderstanding."

Police say Smith and his wife, Racquel, had gotten into an argument just after 2 a.m. Saturday while leaving a nightclub.

Cpl. Paul Mouton says in a news release that officers on patrol saw the argument escalate and then saw Smith grab the woman's hair. Mouton says the woman's injuries were minor.

Smith was booked with domestic abuse and simple battery. He's free on $1,000 bond.

In a statement released Tuesday by the Saints, Smith says what happened was "not a domestic issue" and his wife was not injured as reported. He says he's confident "that the legal process will bear this out."

"You'll see when his helmet comes off on the first time I hit him whether it's fun - see how much smiling there's going to be happening then. Then you'll see if it's fun or if it's games," Sharper said. "I don't play games when it comes to the field. You tell Ochocinco that you got to see me on Sunday. Believe it, Twitter king."

Ochocinco, who's made a reputation during his 10 seasons as both an elite receiver and one of the NFL's leading self-promoters, has about 1.5 million Twitter followers. The receiver also has made the good-natured ribbing of an upcoming opponent on Twitter one of his almost weekly routines.

Sharper, a 2009 All-Pro in his 14th season, engaged in a similar Twitter spat before New Orleans' regular-season opener against Minnesota with Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe.

During his back-and-fourth with Ochocinco, Sharper posted a photo of the Super Bowl ring from the Saints' championship last season.

Ochocinco then posted that the sight of the photo left him in an "unstable emotional state."

Quel gioco è il simbolo di questa squadra.
Comunque c'è una motivazione per ogni scelta...

10) River City: fu premiato come gioco dell'anno. Il gioco in se è clamoroso.
9) Meachem: l'anno scorso ci permise di rimanere imbattuti alla 12° e, di fatto, quella vittoria ha causato la differenza di una vittoria con Minnesota, il conseguente seed 1 e i playoff giocati in casa. Diversamente saremmo dovuti andare a giocare a Minnesota.
8) Dempsey: è a tutt'oggi il record di lunghezza di un calcio. Quasi nessuno sa che Dempsey è nato senza una mano e senza le dita del piede destro, quello con cui calciava, il che rende l'impresa ancora più incredibile.


7) Jenkins: un pò come quella di MEachem. Con Atlanta che non molla un colpo, se andremo ai playoff, forse è proprio per questa genialata di Jenkins. Il gesto atletico è notevole davvero...
6) Prima vittoria dei Saints ai playoff, contro i Rams che sembravano imbattibili.
5) Deuce: Partita che nel 2006 ci portò al Championship, un TD pazzesco! Coach Payton, l'anno scorso, faceva rivedere l'azione prima di scendere in campo durante i playoff per gasare tutti.

How did Pat Sims fall for No-Brainer Freeze? It'll be a long time before Cincinnati defensive tackle Sims lives this one down. Fourth-and-two, 34 seconds left, Bengals up 30-27, Drew Brees at the line of scrimmage, barking out signals for the Saints in a rising and falling cadence. The play is called "No-Brainer Freeze,'' simply, because every one of the 10 players aside from the quarterback is not supposed to use his brain, and every one is supposed to freeze. No movement is required because there's not going to be a snap, and the play is designed to have the play clock run out or the quarterback call a timeout just before it does. The Saints practice Brees' cadence -- sharp, then lower, then rising, then barking, then slower, then fast.

"There's no way we're snapping the ball,'' New Orleans coach Sean Payton told me from the Saints' lead bus in Cincinnati after the game. "We work on it. You try to bark it out and hope you can get them to jump. Against the Jets last year, it worked; we got their big tackle to jump. But usually teams know what you're doing. In this case, we were going to take the delay and then just try to kick the field goal to tie it and send it to overtime.''

But as Brees got to a particularly loud part of his snap-count, Sims took one false step across the line, drawing a Saints lineman across, and flags flew, and the Bengals got penalized, and Brees, on the ensuing first down, hit Marques Colston for the winning touchdown. "We work on that every week,'' Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said. "We worked on it Wednesday. We told them the Saints did this and to watch for it.''

It's the kind of mistake bad teams make. It's the kind of incredibly miniscule, boring piece of practice that every player dreads. But on Sunday in Cincinnati, it won the Saints a game, and kept them within one game of the NFC South-leading Falcons. That's what draws me to plays like this. I love the minutiae that win and lose games. After 59 minutes, the Super Bowl champs were trailing a 2-9 team, and the crowd was whipped into a frenzy, and it was fourth down, and it looked like the Saints were going for it to win it right here, and here was the cool Brees drawing a lesser player offside to win the game. That's some great stuff right there.

Last week, it was Saints defensive back Malcolm Jenkins chasing after and stripping Dallas wide receiver Roy Williams that led to the Saints' 30-27 victory in Dallas. This week, it was Brees drawing a gullible lineman offside that led to the Saints' 34-30 victory in Cincinnati. That's how good teams play, and win.

Niente male affatto per un RB rookie e undrafted...

Mi pare facciate un pochino di fatica pero' ultimamente, non ho visto molto delle partite, è solo una sensazione la mia; mi puoi spiegare cosa manca all' attacco e soprattutto alla difesa per tornare quest' anno al Superbowl. !?

Bush ? E non e' polemica zio, dopo l'infortunio mi pare tutt' altro che tornato, puo' essere una delle cause di questa fatica?
E' uno da recuperare per forza o si puo farne a meno se rientra Thomas ?

Facciamo senz'altro più fatica dell'anno scorso.
Però quella è stata anche un'annata in cui ci è andato tutto bene, aldilà dello splendido campionato.
Che si faccia più fatica è anche ovvio quando ti mancano i due RB titolari da week 3.
Ivory va alla grande, ma non può ancora essere dominante. Fino a 3 mesi fa era un RB undrafted.
Domenica sembra che rientrerà finalmente Thomas e vedremo se cambia qualcosa.
Però in difesa non va affatto male, anzi credo che siamo la terza difesa assoluta (perlomeno fino a domenica scorsa lo eravamo).
Quanto a Bush: è già un mezzo miracolo che sia tornato...un mese e mezzo fa si è rotto la tibia. Adesso ci vuole un pò di tempo per rientare a pieno.
Se è da recuperare per forza? Mah, Bush al 100% è insostituibile per questo tipo di attacco, ma Bush attuale è sostituibile sicuramente. Il problema è che Thomas e Ivory sono due cloni e in questo senso uno come Bush manca eccome...

Vittoria abbastanza scontata contro i Rams.
La difesa finalmente sta giocando da qualche domenica come quella dell'anno scorso.

Adesso però viene il momento della verità, tre partite che sono dei playoff a tutti gli effetti: si va a Baltimore, poi ad Atlanta e infine ci tocca Tampa...

Fortunatamente sembra che l'infortunio a Roby sia meno grave di quanto sembrava ieri vedendo la partita.
Roby è sempre rimasto cosciente e dicono che non ha mai perso la sensibilità di mani e piedi.
Questa dovrebbe essere di per sè un'ottima notizia.
Certo che ci sono stati una decina di minuti abbastanza drammatici.
Vedere Brees in panchina mettersi a pregare in lacrime è stata una immagine abbastanza forte.
Non un campionato fortunatissimo per Roby finora...
